AHMEDABAD:
Security for Amdavadis seems to be entering a new phase. More than 400
paramilitary jawans are being posted in different buildings, public places and
institutions. And, the city police has been promised better fire
power.
The city police commissionerate is abuzz with meetings of
various armed forces these days. According to top city police officials, they
are in process of finalising details of security plans, especially to tackle
insurgency and fidayeen attacks.
Additional force in the form of
Rapid Action Force (RAF) has arrived in the city while Central Reserve Police
Force (CRPF) will also be called in.
Mohan Jha, Joint commissioner of
police, Sector I, told TOI that a meeting had been called up of the zonal deputy
commissioners to discuss security aspects in various police stations across the
city on Thursday morning. "We are devising a practical and applicable security
plan for the city. In the wake of recent attacks, the review of the security was
necessary," he said.
On Thursday, a meeting was held at Navrangpura
police station at the Zone I DCP office. Both city sectors have been allotted a
company of RAF each.
Jha added that soon check points and observation
points will be set up at various critical junctions. "The points will be
selected on the basis of inputs of various police stations about the past record
and probability of trouble. The entry and exit points in the city will be given
the utmost priority," said a senior city police official.
The
official added that in the wake of Mumbai terror attack, security of the city
has been assessed by various agencies such as city crime branch, special branch,
anti-terrorism squad and even intelligence agencies.
BM Rajapara,
inspector of Gujarat University police station, said that the inspectors have
been asked to gather information about the activities going on in ghettos and
also question historysheeters regularly.
