NEW DELHI: Two fresh cases of dengue
were reported in the Capital on Thursday, taking the total number of people
affected by the disease to 67 this season.
"Two more cases of dengue
have been reported from the Capital," MCD Municipal Health Officer N K Yadav
said.
The spurt in the number of dengue cases has already put the
civic authorities on alert and they have issued notices to offices and premises
which were found to be acting as breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
The government buildings which have been issued notices include
Nirman Bhawan, Shastri Bhawan, Krishi Bhawan and Sena Bhawan, all housing
government ministries' offices, including the CPWD, which is responsible for
maintaining government offices.
Three hundred premises have also
been 'challaned', NDMC (New Delhi Municipal Council) Municipal Health Officer P
K Sharma said.
The officials are also blaming the hot and humid
weather for the rise in the number of mosquitoes.
"The moisture in
the air is creating an atmosphere conducive for breeding of mosquitoes. Usually
we see more dengue cases in the end of August and early September.
"Dengue cases start increasing from August and reach their peak in
October before declining. Compared to the same period last year, we have more
cases this time," an official said.
The MCD has initiated a special
sanitation-cum- cleanliness drive in the city this week to get rid of the
mosquitoes and it will continue till September 8.
