CHENNAI: Some passengers of the
Chennai-bound Dadar Express were robbed of their valuables near Wadi railway
station on the Maharashtra-Karnataka border early on Thursday. "The robbers
wielded wooden logs and forced open the windows. They hit aged people sitting by
the window," a one victim said.
The express train reached central
railway station on Thursday evening and the victims approached the railway
police and lodged a complaint.
According to Kamala Bai of
Chintadripet, who had gone to Sholapur in Maharashtra to attend a relative's
marriage, the robbers threatened passengers to part with their valuables. She
had boarded Dadar Express on Wednesday night in Mumbai.
"I was
travelling in the S-5 compartment and boarded the train at 11 pm. When the train
reached Gangapur Road, the train stopped and was held up for about an hour. As
the train stopped, we opened the window. At around 1 am on Thursday, a gang of
30 entered the compartment. They jumped into it, wielding deadly weapons and hit
the passengers through the window. They threatened us to part with gold jewels
and cash," Kamala Bai said.
Though the passengers reported about this
to the train ticket examiner M R Pasupule, no action was taken. The robbers left
the train after sometime, leaving some of the weapons inside the
compartment.
