AHMEDABAD: City police are being led on a merry chase by murder accused, Chirag Rana, in the hunt for the knife used to stab techie Kunal Pancholi to death.

Kunal was killed on August 18 by Megha and Chirag. Megha invited Kunal over to her house and then had hit him on the head with a pestle. Almost simultaneously Chirag pounced on Kunal and inflicted several stab wounds. "Unable to control her rage, Megha then snatched the knife from Chirag and kept stabbing the lifeless body," said police officials.

"Chirag has told us that he had bought the knife from Big Bazaar on the SG Highway. But we are yet to locate the murder weapon," said ND Chauhan, inspector of Adalaj police station who is investigating the case. Chirag seems to have been afflicted by amnesia as he is unable to say exactly where he disposed of the knife.

But, the police did succeed in collecting other crucial evidences in the murder case.

"Though Chirag and Megha had tried hard to wash away blood stains from the latter's house where the murder took place, we have collected vital evidence. With help of forensic officers we have got blood traces in the house," said Chauhan.

Not only that, the police have also got the duo's bloodstained clothes, the suitcase in which Kunal's body was taken to the Tarapur forest area to be burnt and buried and also Kunal's scooter. "All this will be strong evidence against the killers," said police officials.

Kunal's murder was pre-planned at least three days in advance. "While Chirag purchased the knife and selected a deserted spot to bury Kunal's body much in advance, the plastic sheets used to wrap the body and the suitcase came from Megha's house," said police officials.
