HYDERABAD:
A 19-year-old B Com student, Sravanthi, committed suicide at a working women's
hostel in Dilsukhnagar on Wednesday evening. In a note left behind, she alleged
her "college principal is the reason for the suicide".
Sravanthi, a native of
Devarakonda in Nalgonda district, was a B Com first year student of Siddhartha
Degree College in Gaddiannaram, Dilsukhnagar. According to Saroornagar inspector
of police L A Bhaskar, Sravanthi went home for Rakhi festival and returned on
Wednesday morning.
"She brought
money to pay college fee, but did not go to college. After having breakfast, all
her roommates left for their work. At 4 pm, her roommates, came to the room and
knocked on the door. As she did not open the door for some time, they pushed
open the window and saw Sravanthi hanging from the ceiling fan with a stole,"
Bhaskar said.
The girls
immediately ran to the hostel warden and informed him about the incident. The
hostel warden rang up the police. Police broke open the door of Sravanthi's
room. "In the suicide note written in Telugu, she mentioned except Siddharta
College Principal, Govardhini, nobody else is responsible for her death. She had
written that people should forgive her for her act," Bhaskar, quoting the note,
said.
However, after the
preliminary investigation, police suspect that not meeting the expectations of
her parents, who are arranging money for her education with great difficulty,
might have forced her to commit suicide. "We have informed her parents.
After talking to them and the
college principal, we will get more details on the reasons for the suicide," the
police officer said. Police have registered a suspicious death case under
section 174 of the CrPC and sent the body for postmortem.
