NEW DELHI: The drunken party at a farmhouse in Rama Vihar, where two people were shot dead, was organized by Vir Singh alias Bittu, a local property dealer with some political influence, his nephew, Vijay and their common friend, Manjeet.

At least 25 people, most of them wealthy land owners and property dealers, were part of the guest list at the Chandra Apartment Farm House, a sprawling campus inside an illegal colony.

DCP (Outer) Atul Katiyar said police was not ruling out the possibility of previous enmity between Sandeep and one of the victims. Investigations revealed that Sandeep has previous criminal records, including that of murder, the DCP said. ''Our investigations have revealed that Sandeep always carried a weapon with him. A desi katta was used in this case,'' he said.

''The singer's performance started after 10pm by which time some of the invitees had left. Around 11.30pm, an argument broke out between Sandeep and a few others but he asked the singer to carry on. Around 11.40pm, a few guests got up from their seats and began interrupting and mimicking her. It was then that an enraged Sandeep shot seven rounds from his firearm,'' said Amit, one of Vijay's friends, who was at the party.

All four victims were rushed to the nearby Brahma Shakti Hospital and Research Centre, family members said. The duo injured - Vijay Mathur (26), owner of the farmhouse, and his friend Rajesh (25) - are still in ICU.

The distraught families of the victims, Vinod and Shiv, are still in shock. ''Vinod was a man of manners. He never mixed with bad elements. He never touched alcohol. He had left yesterday, saying he was going to a 'Ragini' function. He never came back,'' said a relative of the deceased. He is survived by his parents, elder brother, wife and his one-year-old child. Sources said he was yet to get into meaningful employment.

Meanwhile, Nikki Dabbas, daughter of the deceased MCD employee, Shiv Narayan and posted in Chennai as a senior officer in the CRPF said: ''Raginis are a common phenomenon in our village. My father, too, went to this function after hearing about it from someone else. He did not know all those who attended the do. In fact, he had the idea that it was sponsored by a political party.''
