PANAJI: A government employee and an
accomplice were caught red-handed by the anti-narcotics cell personnel for
selling drugs worth lakhs of rupees outside a popular night club at
Anjuna.
ANC cops raided the taxi stand near Club Paradiso, Anjuna
early on Thursday morning and caught Prasad Harmalkar, 39, from Anjuna, employed
as a driver with the government handicrafts department, selling drugs from a
taxi parked at the stand. Another person Ganesh Naik, 33, from Anjuna was also
arrested.
An offence has been registered against Harmalkar and Naik
for selling drugs.
ANC PI Ashish Shirodkar said, “We found 17
grams of cocaine worth Rs 85,000, some 21 gms MDMA (liquid ecstacy) worth Rs
6,000, some 73 gms charas worth Rs 7,300 and 18 ecstacy tablets weighing four
gms in their possession.”
The police have conducted a panchanama and
attached the duo’s driving licenses and two maruti vans in which they
were peddling the drugs.
Explaining the duo’s modus operandi,
ANC cops said, Harmalkar and his accomplice would drive to the taxi stand and
pretend to be waiting for customers who had entered the club, but would actually
be selling drugs.
