PANAJI: A government employee and an accomplice were caught red-handed by the anti-narcotics cell personnel for selling drugs worth lakhs of rupees outside a popular night club at Anjuna.

ANC cops raided the taxi stand near Club Paradiso, Anjuna early on Thursday morning and caught Prasad Harmalkar, 39, from Anjuna, employed as a driver with the government handicrafts department, selling drugs from a taxi parked at the stand. Another person Ganesh Naik, 33, from Anjuna was also arrested.

An offence has been registered against Harmalkar and Naik for selling drugs.

ANC PI Ashish Shirodkar said, “We found 17 grams of cocaine worth Rs 85,000, some 21 gms MDMA (liquid ecstacy) worth Rs 6,000, some 73 gms charas worth Rs 7,300 and 18 ecstacy tablets weighing four gms in their possession.”
The police have conducted a panchanama and attached the duo’s driving licenses and two maruti vans in which they were peddling the drugs.

Explaining the duo’s modus operandi, ANC cops said, Harmalkar and his accomplice would drive to the taxi stand and pretend to be waiting for customers who had entered the club, but would actually be selling drugs.
