JAIPUR: In yet another temple
burglary, some unidentified persons stole a silver idol of Lord Krishna along
with ‘singhasan’ weighing two kilograms and several other valuable
items from Radha Krishna temple in Ram Nagar area under Sodala police station on
Wednesday.
According to the priest of the temple, Gauri Shankar,
miscreants entered the temple through the main door and broke seven locks of
the passage leading to the main idol.
This is not the first time
that thieves have stolen cash and valuables from the temple. Four months ago, an
abortive attempt was made to steal the valuables.
"I came to know
about the burglary when I reached the temple to offer morning aarti." It was a
daring incident, seven locks were dismantled and no one, even the police patrol,
could notice them, he said. Apart from silver idol and ‘singhasan’,
burglars took away eight silver umbrellas, one silver flute, silver bangle and
donation box, he said.
Earlier, local residents had requested the
Sodala police to provide security to the temple, but they did not take it
seriously. After the incident, residents gathered at the temple and
demonstrated against the police. A resident, Narendra Parikh, said: "Though a
complaint was earlier registered with the police, they did not pay attention to
the matter."
ASI Sumer Singh told TOI that the police have got some
clues from the spot and efforts were on to nab the culprits. He said that
fingerprints have been taken from the spot and police patrolling has been
increased.
