Did Singh Is Kinng meet your expectations as an actor?
You bet, it did. I agreed only after reading the script. In a multi-starrer like this, it is crucial to justify each and every character and Aneesji (Bazmee) has done a brilliant job.

What made you sign this venture?
I signed it because of Aneesji. When he first narrated the character of Raftar Singh to me, I found it so funny that I nearly fell off my chair. I also wanted to work with Vipul Shah. They are both like my extended family.

Will such character roles contribute to fame?
I don’t know what people mean by character roles. All the actors play some character or the other in Singh Is Kinng. Would Happy Singh have been able to leave a mark sans his coterie?

Are such roles enough to grab eyeballs?
My role was short but not insignificant. Even Neha Dhupia’s role in the film was small. But again, every role was integral to the plot.

But weren’t some action sequences snipped off?
No. My role was kept intact. But some editing was necessary to make the
character have a better onscreen effect.

And is Raftar Singh getting effective feedback?
Brilliant, in fact. My inbox is filled with messages from fans and acquaintances who are complimenting me for my role. Some even told me that they haven’t seen such a handsome sardar for quite some time. I had worked hard to look good. I feel elated.

So, is this your comeback vehicle?
Yakeen, which released sometime back, where I was cast opposite Priyanka Chopra, was my comeback venture. But the film didn’t fare well at the box-office. And my role in Dus Kahaniyaan was minuscule.

You are strumming a successful note with your singing career too...
I’ve lent my voice for a couple of songs in Alibaug. It’s a slice-of-life film, which revolves around a few friends and I play one of them.

What else is there to talk about in terms of projects?
I’ve signed two more ventures with Sanjay Gupta’s production house.

So what’s brewing on the personal front?
It’s rocking as well. I’ve a three-month-old son. I consider myself extremely lucky to have a lovely family who is by me through thick and thin.

Your son must be your lucky charm...
It would be mean of me to vest so much responsibility on those tender shoulders. But yes, things are definitely looking up for now.
